Madeline Bell - Picture Me Gone (1968)

The very charming young Madeline Bell in 1968 on Beat-Club.

Madeline Bell - I'm Gonna Make You Love Me (1968)

Another song by Madeline on Beat-Club again. This is a song performed by the late Dee Dee Warwick, sister of Dionne. This stands up very well when heard alongside Dee Dee's iconic version.( Dionne graciously has said that Dee Dee was the real singer in the family!) What a charming young lady she is and a very nice voice. Highly under rated in her day sadly. Born in the US but transferred to the UK Where she found less prejudice. The 60s were a tough time in the US. Born in 19… See more

Come See About Me

Really great version of the Holland Dozier Holland penned song. Bonnie Pointer really hit this out the park and the backing is the best I've heard for this song. Great base work.

Phoebe Snow~Poetry Man

Phoebe Snow was classified as contralto but could sing over a 4 octave range and was also a good guitarist.Rolling Stone said she could do just about anything stylistically and technically. She grew up in a household where music was always playing and as a teenager traversed the Greenwich Village area with her acoustic Guitar playing in the clubs. She collaborated with many big names like Paul Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Allan Roth and Phil Ramone. She was married briefly but her husband came out as gay. She had a daughter who was severely brain damaged at birth. Phoebe refused to put her in an institution and cared for her until the girl died at 31. Sadly Phoebe herself died in 2011 at age 60. Rest in peace Phoebe. She is one of those highly under rated singers who deserved much greater acclaim.

Liinda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow The Shoop Shoop Song

Lovin' You (Alternate Band Version)

Minnie Riperton, the lady with the amazing voice , from D3 to F7 coloratura whistle register! So sad she died of cancer at 31.Rest in Peace Minnie. This is a famous picture of her, with the melting ice cream. Possibly her most famous song. Meant every word for her husband and two small children she had to leave behind.

Shirley Ellis - Stardust (1964 ?)

Shirley Ellis was the singer of several novelty songs like THE name Game, The Nitty Gritty and the Clapping song but here she does a Jazz classic and very well too. She was highly under rated in her day but there has been a revival in interest in her songs and they have been used in films and even in a program to get through to kids with learning disabilities because of their infectious almost hypnotic rhythms. In the film Flawless they are used to help Robert de Niro's character recover from a stroke! If I'm ever in that sad position somebody please give the doctors the cd of her 24 novelty songs I just received this week!

One Day I'll Fly Away - Vesta Williams (1984)

Vesta again with a song that is strongly associated with Randy Crawford. Written by Joe Sample. This is a great version!
