I Can't Stand the Rain - Ann Peebles | The Midnight Special
The great Ann Peebles live with what became her biggest hit. There's no electronically created sound here, just real music being created honestly in front of you. I've never heard Ann do a song badly or indifferently and she's a singer I never get tired of. So this is wonderful! And that outfit suits her to a tee!

I Can't Stand The Rain (Live)
Ann with her biggest hit ( commercially anyway. Everything she does falls in this category for me !) With Red Dog Band this time.
[You Keep Me] Hanging On (Live)
Ann Peebles is a singer I've always got time for! Here is a version of one of her most famous songs with a different band. The Red Dog Band.

I Can't Stand the Rain - Ann Peebles | The Midnight Special
Ann is one of a small number ( fingers of one hand) of singers I can put on repeat all day! To find a live performance like this is a treasure.

Paul Brown :Live w/ Ann Peebles @ STAX RIP Randy Middleton...
Ever since first discovering Ann Peebles she has been a living representation of what Soul music is all about for me. When one watches her perform live like this you are seeing Soul coming into being. With just a smile or a glance she can convey more emotion and meaning than a thousand words! And that is Soul. It's always so great to get a new live performance from her.

[You Keep Me] Hangin' On
Ann Peebles is a singer I can put on repeat all day! And she is incapable of doing a song badly! This live version gives me goosebumps. Nice bit of skat to end off too.

Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You
Bob Dylan has always been one of my favourite wordsmiths ( Nobel prizewinner) but here Ann Peebles takes a Dylan song to a whole new level!
Ann Peebles - I Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home (live - 1999)
Another live Ann Peebles! (25 years later!) Wonderful stage presence. She always seems so happy to be doing what she does so well!
TOPPOP: Ann Peebles - Beware
However there are a few things that can immediately lift my mood and here's one. It's coming across a live performance by this lady, Miss Ann Peebles! I've had a lot to say about her before so I won't repeat it except to say that I don't think she's capable of doing a song badly and that she is one of a special, small set of singers I can put on repeat all day!

Ann Peebles -I Can't Stand The Rain (Rare and Stripped Down)
Ann Peebles and her husband Don Bryant composed this song.Ann Peebles is mathematically speaking at the intersection of three different sets. First is the set of all singers who in my opinion can't do a song badly. Second the are all singers who use their natural voices to sing. No forcing or silly histrionics. Thirdly they are in the set of singers I am happy to set my computer playing a 48 track compilation double cd playing on repeat all day! Footage of her singing live is all too rare so this live stripped down version is wonderful. This is all real music created in real time by the performers. No electronic gizmos . That's Ann's husband on the Wurlitzer keyboard. The petite lady just perches on a tall wooden stool and creates! I believe she is very light on her feet and that the song in which she says she's 99 pounds of Soul is her actual weight (45kg!) The second clip is a happier song and again is conversational in style.

Ann Peebles Bouncing Back
Ann Peebles, an American Soul treasure. If you own two or three Tina Turner albums you will most probably have heard her sing " I Can't Stand The Rain". The song was composed by Ann Peebles and her husband, Don Bryant in 1970.They had wanted to attend a show but were prevented by a torrential downpour! It became one of Ann's iconic songs. She has a vast repertoire of Soul material but unfortunately was not imported to SA. I was lucky enough to recently acquire a 45 track double cd from USA. She and her husband are still alive ( and very much in love they say!) but sadly she stopped performing in 2013 after a stroke. This is Ann in 1990 . Watch the backing singers when it's their turn! They really get into it! Horns are great too.
