Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid

Kitty Lester again. Some good advice there!

KETTY LESTER - SECRET LOVE (SHIVAREE SHOW)

Beautiful version of a song I can remember done by British singer Kathy Kirby quite a while back. The clarity of her diction is again evident. There was always a word or two I could not be sure of but now every word is clear to me!

Ketty Lester - Once Upon A Time - Beautiful, Somber Early 60's Ballad

Beautiful ballad from Ketty again.

Ketty Lester - Love Letters

I stumbled upon this just a few days ago. When the video started i was a bit disappointed as the camera work looked very dated. But the moment she sang the first line I was an instant fan of Ketty Lester. Beautiful low contralto voice with absolutely clear enunciation. She was born in 1934 in Hope Arkansas and at 8.00pm California time on August 3rd this year will be giving a concert for her loyal fans. Her hair has turned white but she still has this beautiful voice and is still a strikingly beautiful lady. The song she sings here was her biggest hit, selling over a million copies.Apart from recording with a number of record companies she is also an accomplished actress with appearances in several TV series and a number of major films like the Prisoner of Second Avenue. She was nominated for a Grammy award in the category Best Female Pop Vocal artist.

I Just Dont Know What to Do with Myself

Yet another Ketty Lester song suggested for me. From the Burt Bacharach/ Hal David team of composers.

Put It on the Line

Here's another number from China Moses. Nice picture of her too. She bears a strong resemblance to her mother Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Blinky - Rescue Me

Blinky Williams again with a very nice version of Fontella Bass' biggest hit. Nicely balanced by Motown's backing which does not intrude on her vocals.

What More Can I Do - Blinky featuring Roy Gaines

Blinky with a cut from the re-issue of some of earlier Motown stuff published on a 2 cd Anthology in 2019.It's hard to understand why this took5 decades to do!

It's Been A Long Time Happenin'

Material recorded in 1968 by Blinky and only released in 2018,

Blinky Williams - I Wouldn't Change The Man He Is

Sondra ( Blinky ) Williams Was born in Oakland Cf in 1944. Her father was a church pastor and not surprisingly she started her singing career in the church choir, at the age of 6. She recorded an album with Atlantic but then moved to Motown where she did some solo work and then then duet work with Edwin Starr. The former material was largely relegated to the "vault" and the latter was not really well promoted. She returned to Gospel as Sondra Williams And it was only in 2019 when Real Gone Music published a 2 cd Anthology of some Motown stuff that had been in the vault that her really great solo Soul voice was shown to the world. The clip attached goes back to her earliest work and shows a selection of pictures at various stages of her career.

China Moses & Raphael Lemonnier - Move Over (Janis Joplin cover) on ARTE...

One of the nice things about YouTube is that when you say you like something their search engine goes to find more material by that artist. Here's another live performance by China Moses, this time with pianist Rafael Lemonnier, a cover of a Janis Joplin song. Don't know the names of the other musicians. She graciously introduces them but my ear is not fast enough!

One Day I'll Fly Away - Vesta Williams (1984)

Vesta again with a song that is strongly associated with Randy Crawford. Written by Joe Sample. This is a great version!
