Please Send Me Someone to Love
Here's proof that Thelma Houston's singing career was far from over even after Disco waned! Her performance of a well known Soul classic shows off her quite incredible vocal range.
Don't leave me this way - Thelma Houston
This is Thelma Houston doing a Disco rework of what had been a big hit for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. She was born in 1946 and achieved international acclaim with this song in 1977. I find that a bit surprising as I would thought that someone with her talent would have been recognised sooner. Her performing genre is Disco and unfortunately when the popularity of Disco waned she was in a sense left with nowhere to go. However she adapted and went into TV shows, acting and other types of music. In the second clip you can hear her giving the Rolling Stones a run for their money. She is described as a very natural sort of person who does not put on any airs. What you see is what you get. A pleasure to work with it is said by all who have been in that position. In the live clip here she is having a lot of fun and so are the dancers. I like her outfit too. Smart but unpretentious.
