Barbara Acklin - This Girl's In Love With You
For some time I thought that Barbara Acklin was a one hit wonder girl with her biggest hit Love Makes A Woman but i've discovered that she has an extensive repertoire of great songs to her name, many of them self compositions as she was an acknowledged song writer too.By the time she was 11 she was singing solos in the First Baptist Church and when still a teen she sang in clubs etc. At 18 she took a job as a receptionist at Brunswick Studios. She began writing for several big name stars at Brunswick including Jackie Wilson who convinced the company to let her cut a disc after hearing her sing. Apart from many self compositions she also did numbers like the one here composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick who had a big hit with this.I prefer Barbara's version which is further into Soul. The entry below is also famous and I have posted Roberta Flack's before. The two versions are very different but I like both equally. Sadly Barbara died at only 55 after contracting Pneumonia.
