Kim Weston live at the Dominion Theatre, London 1990.
This is Kim Weston who was with Motown Records in the erly 70's and produced a large store of material with them. including a famous duet with Marvin Gaye. This is Kim in 1990 at the Dominion Theatre in London. In this set of numbers she does that Duet again with Edwin Starr. Tragically Marvin is already gone to an untimely death at 45 in 1984.But the duet with Edwin is good, even though Mr. Starr gets the words a bit mixed up! Kim has in my opinion the biggest and most powerful Northern Soul voice to ever go through Motown. Unfortunately she was only with them for a few short years, otherwise I believe she could have been their anchor Megastar. She does not do Bubblegum for sure as you can see from her version of The Greatest Love Of All here at Dominion. The voice and breathing control is absolute and that mighty voice just seems to come completely naturally. Another nice thing about Kim is that her dress code for the stage is impeccably elegant, unlike some of what passes for singers today! I believe also that #KimWeston is Bill Clinton's favourite vocalist. His opinion carries some weight. I heard him give a short but well informed speech on the role played by African American music in the wider context of American music in general. This was given on the occasion of a concert given by Gladys Knight and The Pips in the White House. Judge for yourself!
