Linda Jones - I Who Have Nothing
Linda Jones had one of the most immediately recognisable voices of the Soul Music genre. There's Soul and then Deep Soul where the singer reaches to deeper emotional depths, but I think Linda needs a further , deeper category of classification. The circumstances of her death were both traumatic and sad for her many fans. She went to her mother's apartment for a short rest between the afternoon and evening performances at the nearby Apollo Theater in Harlem but slipped into a state of insulin shock and was pronounced dead that evening. The news was relayed to a packed Apollo as fans waited for her to appear. She was just 27 years old. Here she brings her unique style to a song also performed by Dame Shirley Bassey.

I Can't Stand The Rain (Live)
Ann with her biggest hit ( commercially anyway. Everything she does falls in this category for me !) With Red Dog Band this time.

Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields and Jessie Smith were initially members of the Ikettes who backed Ike and Tina Turner, but left after Ike ...
-
Shirley Brown with a self penned song. A sad story but that the way it goes with Soul.
