Keep The Customers Satisfied ~ Marsha Hunt

Marsha Hunt was born in Philadelphia in 1946 and raised by three strong women, hr mother Inez a librarian, her aunt Thelma , a glamorous Catholic lady and her grandmother Edna ,a Southern lady who took no nonsense! She moved to California at 14 and later attended UCLA. at 20 she moved to the UK and became involved with many famous people. Mick Jagger fathered her only child . At first he did not want his name connected with her but after the child turned 11 became very involved as a parent and was very kind to her. Marsha is a multi talented woman with acting, writing and singing credits aplenty. The track I've included here is immediately recognisable as an earlier Simon and Garfunkel hit.

Marsha Hunt - Wild Thing

Marsha Hunt again and the British influence is obvious. Troggs this time.

Shirley Brown Long As You Love Me

Another great voice who recorded for Stax Records.

Shirley Brown - Stay With Me Baby (Official Visualizer)

Shirley Brown with a great song also done by Dame Ruby Turner. But this is as Deep Soul, characterised by the level of desperation! Again a Stax production.

You Left a Good Woman for a Good Time

Shirley Brown with a self penned song. A sad story but that the way it goes with Soul.

Lorraine Ellison - "You Don't Know Nothing About Love" (1969) [One of th...

Lorraine Ellison born in 1931 in Philadelphia began singing church with a family group and switched to R&B and Soul in 1964.This track is definitely at the deep end of Deep Soul. She gave up singing to take care of her mother and sadly died of cancer at 51 years. Rest in Peace Lorraine.

Jolene

This is Gloria Ann Taylor with a well known Dolly Parton song. I'm surprised I have only just now discovered Gloria! Very nice Soul voice indeed.

Gloria Taylor - You've Gotta Pay the Price

Gloria again on a Sun Records production. Where Rock and Roll was born they say. Could be true.Atlantic was also an early innovator. This has a nice refrain to it. Pleasing vocals from Gloria.

Gloria Ann Taylor: Love Is A Hurtin' Thing (12in version)

Gloria Ann Taylor was born in Dehue West Virginia and move to Toledo Ohio at age 2. Her mother died when she was a teen and she started singing in Toledo clubs to support herself. She was noticed by record producer Walter Wisenhunt.who became her manger and later her husband. He experimented with a wall of sound type backing but was not successful commercially and she eventually gave up singing. However Ubiquity Records have now re-issued her work on vinyl and cd and her original records have become valuable collectors pieces. She announced a return to singing in 2015 but sadly died of heart problems in 2017 at age 73, caused by having had rheumatic fever as a child. Rest in peace Gloria. This track sounds like one of the Wall of Sound experiments!
